Players can also utilise Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection to take on players from across the globe! Multiplayer modes include Ranked mode where players can compete to climb up leaderboards and Unranked mode where they can quickly select and play friends.”

PS3 | Euro Launch a failure!

March 23, 2007

Sup,

If you haven’t heard or seen the pictures of the abysmal midnight launch of the PS3 in Europe, then here are some pictures taken from a French gaming site. Also, joystiq had this to write:

“Apparently the gloves are off in Europe, and it seems to be working. At French events, one store sold 50 consoles out of 1000, and another store sold 300 out of 1000. At the massive under-attended event at the Eiffel Tower, where they were told to expect 3000 people, roughly 40 people turned out … security was still turning people away without invitations. One unlucky gate crasher said, “I came from the suburbs, perhaps they don’t like my face.” At least the French are brutally honest.”

Just to let you know, this was 5hours before the midnight launch at a major gaming store in France.

The only guy there 4hours before the launch!

and finally… some XBOX360 LOVE!

Gooooooooooooooo Wii360!

PS3 | No love for the console in Australia

March 22, 2007

Hey,

I know I usually don’t write or post stuff related to the PS3, but this has to be the best article EVER! At least for us Nintendo fanboys… 😛

Today is tomorrow in Australia. Not just is it tomorrow, but it’s coming on noon. According to The Sydney Morning Herald the PlayStation 3 launched last night with “officials, media and security outnumbering customers.” The 500 retailers on the continent opened their doors for a midnight launch and despite the estimated 20,000 pre-orders “most stores were virtually deserted.

The Herald says even the official launch event at Myer’s Pitt Street store had only 40 people in line at midnight “causing distress for the army of camera crews who turned up expecting to capture launch mayhem.” The gentlemen who ended up being first in line showed up at 9 PM. Adding insult to injury, television producers “unashamedly” had the crowd fake cheer for the cameras. A local radio station even had their on-air talent create “bogus cheers” to convince listeners that a major event was going on. Looks like the hype accompanying the U.S. launch has all but vanished. We’ll get a better picture of the PS3 PAL release later this evening when reports of the European launch trickle in. Maybe the land down under is just full of Xbox and Nintendo fanboys?

Wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii! =-)

Wii | GTA Wii a possibility?

March 20, 2007

Hey,

According to this Article there might be a slight chance that the next GTA game will also be released on the Wii. Well at least Reggie Fils-Aime would like that too happen!

In an interview with an American television station, Reggie Fils-Aime, the president of Nintendo of America, said that Nintendo has done all it can to persuade Take-Two Interactive Software to bring the Grand Theft Auto franchise to Nintendo consoles, and it is now up to the third party publisher to decide whether Rockstar Games’ immensely popular series will appear on Wii. We should know more later in 2007 regarding this issue.

Video Games | Montreal’s Babel Media is getting ready for the boom!

February 21, 2007

Hey,

The following was taken from Joystiq

Montreal outsourcing and post production specialist Babel Media is gearing up for the city’s impending game development growth, doubling the size of its facility, while adding 350 new jobs; to its existing 150. While Babel serves the interests of a variety of media formats, Ubisoft’s grand plans and Eidos’ moving in have spurred Babel’s decision to bulk up. Known for its translation services, the company specializes in functionality QA, localized translation and audio creation, localization QA, and localized packaging and manuals.

“We have recently signed contracts with clients who, without exaggeration, own some of the greatest Intellectual Property in the world,” said Babel managing director Algy Williams, adding, “We will be testing their games across all platforms, including PS3 and Xbox 360, and we need to recruit talented and motivated people who are looking for a career in the games industry.”

News | Canada to be blacklisted?

February 14, 2007

Hey, this entire article was taken from joystiq.com – Article

—————–

Canada accused of safeguarding pirates, ESA & friends seek blacklisting

The IIPA, a coalition of US media groups that includes the Entertainment Software Association, is urging the Bush administration to blacklist Canada for its failure to protect intellectual property rights. The IIPA alleges that Canada has not delivered on its promise to modernize the country’s copyright laws, in turn, fueling a hotbed of piracy.

Canada was placed on the US’s low-priority watch list three years ago, but the IIPA believes it’s time to elevate the bordering nation to the “priority watch list,” joining notorious pirate havens like Belize, China, Indonesia, Russia, Turkey, Ukraine and Venezuela. Canada has supposedly emerged as a leading exporter of console mod chips, led by organized-crime rings like the Hells Angels in Quebec and the Big Circle Boys in Ontario and British Columbia.

“Canada remains far behind virtually all of its peers in the industrialized world with respect to its efforts to bring its copyright laws up to date with the realities of the global digital networked environment,” claimed the IIPA in its submission to the US trade czar.

Wii | That voting channel

February 14, 2007

Hey,

As most of you have probably heard or even tried, there is a new voting channel available for free via the shopping channel. I don’t know about you guys but so far the polls are pretty damn lame. “What would you prefer a cat or a dog?” — Like.. uhmm.. who cares? The only thing I like is how you need to pick up your Mii and shoot him on the side of the vote you want to make.

Overall the interface is neet and fun, but they really need to come up with some relevent polls that would actually influence the future of the Wii as a gaming/entertainment system.

Wii | Ubi opening a CGI film studio in Quebec

February 10, 2007

Hey,

This is what joystiq wrote:

“Word from the Canadian newswire is that Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot is preparing to announce a major “growth plan for the company” tomorrow. According to Québécois newspaper La Presse, Guillemot will unveil plans for a new computer-animation studio in Quebec, which would initially produce “short films for the general public.”

Ubisoft’s new CGI studio would be made possible, in part, by an ongoing government grant that is providing the company with roughly C$454 million (approximately $383.9 million USD) over time, in order to create 1,000 new jobs in Quebec. Supposedly tomorrow’s announcement will see Canada labor minister Jean-Pierre Blackburn and Montreal mayor Gerald Tremblay present Ubisoft Montreal with a portion of the grant worth C$8 million (approx. $6.8 million USD).”
